“For the first time, I had very defined abs and a perfectly flat stomach. What pleased me more, however, was how my entire body became more toned.”

Ashtanga Yoga

photoashtangaYoga promotes flexibility, strength, injury resistance, and healing. Yet the beneficial elements of yoga that enhance and go beyond the physical are attributed to the mind/body connection through various stages of awareness (i.e. control of functions such as movement, focus, and breath).

At The Integrative Athlete, we promote Ashtanga yoga, as taught by Sri K. Pattabi Jois of Mysore, India. Ashtanga yoga is a very physically demanding practice and, like any other forms of rigorous muscular and cardiorespiratory exercise, needs to be balanced with proper recovery. Students practice a distinct series of poses called the Primary Series to begin their journey, and work into more advanced series over the course of their lifetime. There are 6 series in all, and only one person in the whole world has worked up to the 6th series!

Ashtanga yoga is renowned for its ability to strengthen while rapidly mobilizing the entire body. You will feel more alive as you gain true awareness of the state of your body and mind while your body transforms into it’s healthiest and most efficient state. We recommend Ashtanga Yoga for those willing to develop athleticism and balance through self reflection and a disciplined approach to holistic health.
